Oil-Free Air Fryer Onion Rings (Starch Solution Compliant)

Ingredients:

2 white or yellow onions

Ingredients for wet mix:

3/4 cup of wheat or gluten free flour

1 cup of oil free plant milk (I used plant oat)

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

pepper to taste

salt to taste

Ingredients for dry mix:

1 cup of vegan Panko bread crumbs

2 tbsp nutritional yeast

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

1 tsp onion powder

pinch of salt

Directions:

Peel the outer layer off the onion off to get a fresh, clean working layer. Slice the onions into 1/2 inch think slices and try to keep them from breaking. A mandolin would work great here.

In a small wide bowl, add all the ingredients for wet mix and whisk them smooth. Batter mix should be thick enough to coat but not too thick. Thin with water if necessary. Next, in a separate small wide bowl, mix all the dry ingredients.

Dip the onion rings one at a time into the wet batter mix, shake off any excess and then coat them with breadcrumbs from the dry mix. Repeat this process for all the onions.

Preheat the Air fryer to 400 degree. Cook the onion rings for 12-15 mins until they are golden brown. I cooked mine for 13 mins. I did not turn them. You may need to turn yours of shake them half way though. Repeat until all the rings are done. Serve with ranch dressing.
